“This collection was the culmination of working on a smaller scale in the West. The subject of the sea became a tool to explore the grief I was going through at the time, not just the grief of losing my mother but the grief of the whole world as I was painting these throughout the lockdown and 2020 with the radio constantly playing, alerting me to global constant Covid mono news whilst I painted in my self-imposed isolation in the studio as a way of getting through it and for keeping distracted and absorbed.”
